How to Pay GST/HST Online Through Your Bank

Managing your GST/HST payments is easier when you know how to use your bank’s online payment system. Follow this step-by-step guide to pay GST/HST online through online banking.

Step 1: Log In to Online Banking

Visit your bank’s website and log in using your username and password.

Step 2: Go to the Payments Section

Look for the section labeled Payments, Transfers, or sometimes Tax Services.

Step 3: Choose the Correct CRA GST Account

When setting up your GST/HST payment, you’ll see different account codes. Each has a specific purpose:

  • GST34 – Filing and Payment
Use this option to file and pay GST/HST immediately. The payment will apply to the return period you are filing.

  • GST-B – Balance Due
Select this option if you need to pay a balance owed from a previous period.

  • GST-P – Payment Only
Use this for any type of payment, including installments or current-period balances.

Step 4: Select the Correct Reporting Period

Enter the period you are filing for. For example: If your period ends on March 31, and the payment is due April 30, choose March 31 as the period end date.

Step 5: Confirm the Payment Date

Choose the date for the payment to process. The funds will be withdrawn on the date you select.

✅ That’s it! You’ve successfully scheduled your GST/HST payment through online banking. This method is secure, fast, and ensures your CRA payments are applied correctly.
